The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is seeking your views on whether directors’ home addresses should still be published on the (publicly searchable) Companies Office Register. The deadline for submitting feedback to MBIE is 5pm on Friday 3 August 2018.
What is MBIE proposing?
MBIE is likely to introduce a director identification number (DIN) for each director, which should make it easier to verify a director’s identity. The DIN could also remove the need to have residential addresses publicly available, so MBIE is testing this idea.

MBIE has identified two options:
MBIE favours the first option (allowing any director to not publish their address). However, MBIE would still like feedback from the community, to help iron out the details, and prevent against any unintended consequences.
