Geoff Bevan

Consultant

Geoff has extensive experience across all aspects of employment and health and safety law. Before joining Gallaway Cook Allan in 2012 he practiced for almost 14 years with a large national law firm, working throughout the country as an employment specialist.

Geoff has developed particular expertise in assessing and quickly resolving (or preventing) employment disputes. “Clients with employment problems are looking for advice that is pragmatic, down to earth and sensible” he says. Geoff also provides strategic advice for Boards, organisations and individuals facing broader “people” related challenges, including issues relating to culture, safety, reputational risk, leadership, and industrial relations.

Geoff’s practice covers:

  • Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court and Court of Appeal
  • Redundancy and disciplinary processes
  • Dealing with employees in commercial transactions and insolvency situations
  • Senior executive exit negotiations (acting for employers and employees)
  • Dealing with union negotiations
  • Restraints of trade
  • Health and safety, including acting for victims and their families
  • Sexual harassment claims (acting for employers and individuals, including in high profile situations)
  • Bullying and stress related issues (Geoff has acted for a large public sector organisation facing significant bullying claims, appearing in the Court of Appeal)
  • Compliance (including employment agreements and health and safety)

Geoff is based in Christchurch, but frequently works with clients in Dunedin, and across New Zealand.
